We are pleased to announce the first solo exhibition of French artist Laurence Aëgerter, Elasticity of Presence, which includes a selection of existing and new works from the last 10 years of the artist, whose works are represented in renowned collections such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the Paul Getty Center in Los Angeles. In addition, an installation of her latest textile works can be discovered exclusively in the showroom for 10 days only.
Laurence Aëgerter, who lives and works in Amsterdam and Marseille, analyses in her works how images unfold an unexpected effect and meaning when they are set in a new context. She invites us to re-read familiar symbols and images, to dissolve fixed categories of thought and to challenge the boundaries of our collective subconscious. In her photographic and textile works, she explores everyday but often overlooked questions and encourages us to sharpen our perception.
Aëgerter combines knowledge from various fields and establishes interdisciplinary connections between art history, neurology, psychology, and philosophy. In collaboration with scientists and people from outside the art world, she creates multi-layered multimedia works that connect the present with the past in a humorous and serious way. By immersing herself in well-known and personal stories, she becomes an attentive observer of the reality that surrounds us.
