Sandro Diener's landscape photographs do not attempt to explain specific geographical locations, but to convey moods - by means of an aesthetic of simplicity that is anything but banal. Whether in the Alps, Eastern Europe or Iceland, Sandro Diener waits for the moment when earth, light and the weather create a mystical, almost surreal scenery. Familiar and unfamiliar terrain is transformed into a timeless and placeless topography in which grass, rocks, water and clouds become a surface on which to project our own feelings. While the elements merge into harmonious compositions, the viewer's gaze is thus simultaneously directed outwards and inwards.
Sandro Diener was born in Zurich in 1975, where he still lives and works today. He began his professional career as an assistant at the Maur photo and film studio, where he worked with various big names in advertising photography. This was followed by many years as an assistant to Zurich fashion photographer Jost Wildbolz. He has been a freelance photographer in the advertising and editorial sector since 2000. In 2008, he began photographing landscapes for a Valser advertising campaign. His photographic work with a focus on landscape and fashion deepened in 2010 during Diener's trip to Iceland. Since then, he has increasingly taken on advertising commissions that build on his freelance work.
